How do I pick a counsellor?
Looking at a list of counsellor names and choosing one can be overwhelming. Here's what to look for to make the search easier.
Counsellors on #ReachOutSaltSpring write their bios and share other information,so much can be discovered by reading the bios. If you want a more humorous counsellor, look for a funny bio. If you are looking for someone more serious, look for that too. In the bios, you can also see what each counsellor specializes in e.g. 2SLGBTQI+, grief, addiction.
Next, determine if the counsellors are available when you are available. Practitioners dedicate ten free sessions per year that might already be allocated (your advocate can determine if this is the case). Ask about availability.
You might feel uneasy as you book your appointment, but the counsellor you've selected has the job to help make you feel comfortable and safe as soon as the appointment starts.
